Company Background

The Cape Union Mart Group, established in 1933, is a family-owned business, with over three hundred stores across South Africa, Botswana and Namibia. Cape Union Mart Group today is the custodian of multiple brands and chains, like Cape Union Mart, K-Way, Keedo and Sparks & Ellis. Cape Union Mart stores stock a wide range of quality gear and apparel for hiking, camping, trail running, mountain biking, snow sports, traveling, safaris, fitness, and more. Cape Union Mart have a Distribution Centre in Montague Gardens, in Cape Town.

Project Scope

  • Dizanis project focussed on the Change Management within the DC with the implementation of a new Oracle cloud-based Warehouse Management System within the DC. The project focussed on mapping current-state processes for all departments within the DC, mapping the future state processes, assisting with the understanding and communicating of the functional specs of the new WMS, doing a Gap analysis amongst current management staff, creation of Job Descriptions and Standard Operating Procedures, Functional System Testing, training for staff across entire DC, full on-site assistance with stock take-on to new system and assistance with go-live of new system.

Project Outcomes

  • Current-state and future-state process flows in full. A total of 65 SOPs, 12 Job Descriptions and 12 Quick Reference Guides created. SOP Training, and hardware/system training of 100+ staff training. Successful stock take-on with successful new WMS implementation on go-live day. After go-live support, with an introduction to extra support in the LEAN-space.

Impacts

The successful implementation and proper planning prior to go-live resulted in a smooth and successful go-live to new WMS system. This successful project implementation led to an extended partnership with Dizani and Cape Union Mart, which allowed for further project opportunities, with a greater focus on Lean principles.
